Caryl: Our protagonist, Caryl is a force to be reckoned with. She is vibrant, strong, and doesn't take sh*t from anyone. 

Jim: Caryl's beloved husband Jim has devoted his life to being Caryl's caregiver for the last 2.5 years. He does all of the dirty work of taking care of the animals so that Caryl can spend what little energy she has on doing the things she loves.

Steph: Caryl's adopted daughter Steph is formerly her niece, her youngest sister's daughter. Steph moved to Vermont in December 2023 to be closer to Caryl, and currently works at John Burt's farm, Sun Hill, just up the road.

Drew: Caryl's adopted son Drew, formerly her nephew, is a motorcycle hobbyist who has been living behind his grandparent's house in California for the last several years in order to help care for them. Drew flew back to Vermont with Caryl in February 2024, and planned to stay in Vermont for at least several months to help Caryl and Jim during this time.
